There is something special about the Fourth of July in North Texas.
Maybe it's the smell of barbecue drifting through the neighborhood. Maybe it's seeing families setting up lawn chairs hours before the fireworks begin. Or maybe it's the simple tradition of gathering with friends, neighbors, and family to celebrate another summer together.
For me, some of my favorite Fourth of July memories have nothing to do with major events. They involve spending the day with my kids, Andrew, Mitchell, and Ashlyn, firing up the grill, having friends over for a backyard barbecue, enjoying good food and conversation, and then ending the evening watching the kids run around with sparklers while fireworks light up the Texas sky.
Those simple moments are part of what makes living in the North Dallas suburbs so special.
This year is particularly meaningful because 2026 marks America's 250th birthday. Communities across Prosper, Celina, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and the surrounding area are planning celebrations that bring together neighbors, families, and friends to celebrate Independence Day.
If you're looking for ways to celebrate, here are some of the biggest events happening across North Texas.
Prosper's Pride in the Sky
Date: Thursday, July 2, 2026
Location: Frontier Park, Prosper
Pride in the Sky has become one of Prosper's signature annual events. Residents gather at Frontier Park for an evening filled with live entertainment, food vendors, family activities, and one of the area's most anticipated fireworks shows.
One of the things I enjoy most about this event is seeing how many people from across Prosper come together in one place. It feels less like an event and more like a community reunion.
Frisco Freedom Fest
Dates: July 3-4, 2026
Location: Various locations throughout Frisco
Frisco Freedom Fest remains one of the largest Independence Day celebrations in North Texas.
Activities typically include:
- Family-friendly attractions
- Community events
- Patriotic tributes
- Live entertainment
- Fireworks displays
- Activities spread across multiple venues
If you're looking for a full holiday weekend experience, Freedom Fest offers enough activities to fill several days.
McKinney Red, White and BOOM!
Date: Saturday, July 4, 2026
Location: Historic Downtown McKinney and Towne Lake
McKinney continues to deliver one of the most traditional Fourth of July celebrations in North Texas.
The festivities generally include:
- Hometown parade
- Downtown block party
- Food vendors
- Live music
- Family activities
- Evening fireworks
The combination of historic downtown charm and patriotic celebration makes this event feel like something straight out of a classic Americana postcard.
Celina Splash & Blast
Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026
Time: 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Location: Old Celina Park
While technically taking place one week before Independence Day, Splash & Blast has become one of the region's favorite summer traditions and an unofficial kickoff to Fourth of July celebrations.
The event features:
- Water slides and splash attractions
- Ninja Nation obstacle course
- Live entertainment
- Food vendors
- Local shopping vendors
- America 250 and Celina 150 drone show
- Fireworks after dark
As Celina continues to grow, events like this help preserve the strong sense of community that has made the city so attractive to families.
America 250 Celebrations in Prosper
The United States celebrates its 250th birthday in 2026, and Prosper has planned additional America 250 programming throughout the year.
These special events create additional opportunities for residents to celebrate our nation's history while connecting with neighbors and community organizations. If you're a Prosper resident, keep an eye on the town's event calendar for additional activities leading up to Independence Day.
Sometimes the Best Celebration Is Right at Home
The truth is that some of the best Fourth of July memories don't happen at organized events.
They happen in backyards.
They happen around a grill.
They happen when friends stay longer than expected and conversations continue well after sunset.
They happen when kids run around with sparklers while parents keep a watchful eye from lawn chairs nearby.
Whether you're heading to a community event, watching a fireworks show, hosting a barbecue, or simply spending time with the people you care about most, the Fourth of July reminds us why so many families love calling North Texas home.
In a region that continues to grow and change every year, traditions like these help keep our communities connected.
From my family to yours, I hope you have a safe, memorable, and meaningful Independence Day celebration.
